Peony Yip

I have chosen to study Peony Yip as I love he way she draws animals over human drawings, i thought this was a perfect technique for me as it allows me to incorporate human portraits with animal portraits as well as intertwining a emotive and powerful message.

Peony Yip uses pencils to create her beautiful pieces, she first uses black pencil for her human portrait and then uses red pens to draw the animal portraits, sometimes she reverses the colours. using opposing colours creates a beautiful contrast to obviously show the different portraits.

I would like to experiment with the layering by incorporating different materials, such as tracing paper, acetate, glass and cellotape transfers.

Banksy

I have decided to look as some of Banksy's pieces that incorporate animal rights. I love the mysterious aspect to Bansky that they are able to create extremely powerful and controversial pieces yet remain completely anonymous.  Banksy is someone who uses the graffiti style in locations that can either hold more of a meaning or will get the biggest impact.

For this piece Banksy took a different turn and created an exhibit called 'Dismayland' which was full of controversial messages and ideas.  this particular piece was a representation of the awful conditions Orca whales live in, in Sea world. This is an issue that has become particularly prominent in todays media and has a very powerful following.

I'm excited to experiment with the graffiti style as it is something new to me and rather a challenge for me. I would like to experiment with different new article in the background of my inspired pieces to create more dramatic and emotive pieces.

Tamara Phillips

Tamara Phillips is completely inspired by nature and natural elements around her. she believes that beauty is everywhere; in the growth of the forrest, in the depth of the sea, the curves of bone. Tamara looks at many elements such as skin, scales, bark and the ripples of a puddle. She believes in the raw texture of her environment, Tamara also believes she is a translator of life and is obligate to narrate it.

i love the way Tamara has played with different patterns in her work and took out the classing patterns and textures of the animals normal skin, she incorporates bold colours that create beautiful pieces that do reflect the true beauty and grandeur of the animals.

I've taken inspiration from Tamara Phillips work as i'm inspired by changing the texture and patterns of the animals skin to create new and imaginative pieces that reflect more of my own style, i would also like to encorporate different styles into this type of work, possible using line drawings or different mediums such as oil pastels or paint.

My Trip to the Sealife Centre

Over the summer holidays this I decided to visit the Sea Life Centre in Birmingham to grasp a further understanding and knowledge of sea creatures, their habitats, movements and their anatomy. During thus visit I wanted to gain this understanding of sea creature’s anatomy as my theme included moulding human bone structure with different animals to create completely original designs and concepts, during this visit I also found out different information about the different animals and facts that were particularly interesting, including certain animals that are becoming more endangered such as the Hawksbill Turtle, Blue Whales and Hawaiian Mock Seals.

Also this visits showed me the vast majority of species and specimens that can be found under the sea even though the carry a fraction of what the ocean holds, this also opened my eye to how many different species there are in the world and how the Human race is the single most dominant in the world. Why us? Why our species?

I would like to research more into how we became who we are today, the classic theory is that we were evolved from Apes, however I would like to see whether the different structures in aquatic animals would have allowed us to be their ancestors if climate had been different and if so what we would have looked like to this day.

I will use the different forms from the creatures to create different shapes and outcomes that we could have look like when evolving from see creatures and possibly some of the traits we could have gained. For example jelly fish have a very unique and strange structure as they have no bones and a very good defence system, I would like to do research into combining these atributes with human ones.
